22nd July 2012: Olympic Torch Relay at Coventry Road
An early start – gather at 8:00am to witness the torch relay and then enjoy a beigel breakfast (£2 each person) together. Venue: corner of Cranbrook Road and Coventry Road, Ilford.

Sunday 19th August: An Evening with Eva Loeffler at WLS
The Road to the Paralympics: The Story of Sir Ludwig Guttmann at Woodford Liberal Synagogue
Starting at 4:00pm Eva will speak about the life of her father – Sir Ludwig Guttmann – who was a Jewish neurosurgeon who sheltered other Jews at Breslau Hospital (where he was the medical director) during Kristall Nacht. He moved to Oxford in 1939 and helped create the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where he also founded the Stoke Mandeville Games the fore runner of today’s Paralympic Games.
This is a free event, with light refreshments provided, but there will be a collection and the proceeds will be donated to ‘WheelPower‘ the wheelchair sports charity based at Stoke Mandeville.
