Blatná Scroll Article
On 25th November, we published “Remembering the Jewish Community of Blatná”. This posting spoke about the WLS commemorative service for the community of Blatná – the home of the Czech scroll loaned to WLS. That post also mentioned the research done by Helena and Chris Underhill into the community of Blatná.
The Underhill’s have written about an article “The Woodford-Blatná Connection” (pdf) now published in the quarterly Review magazine of the British Czech and Slovak Association. The article covers the story of the Czech scrolls – how they came to Westminster, under the auspices of the Memorial Scrolls Trust, and the loaning of the scrolls to communities round the world. It touches on what happened to the Jewish community in Blatná, the commemorative service held at Woodford Liberal Synagogue and the exhibition put on at Woodford – with material provided by the underhill’s (now transferred to Kingston Liberal Synagogue).
