Learning At Woodford – Autumn 2014

Creating A Jew-ish Household – Sunday 14th September 2014, 11:00 – 12:30

The brunch get-together for young couples in which we chat, share experiences, consider the place of Jewishness and Judaism in your lives and homes. This meet will include wedding photos! If you wish to join the group, please contact rabbi@woodfordliberal.org.uk

Prayer Book Hebrew

A class for those who would like to learn or improve their ability to read and understand the Hebrew we use in synagogue, at home, and elsewhere.

Wednesdays 7:30 – 8:30pm, on the dates of the Access to Judaism class (see below)

  • 3rd September – Teshuvah / Repentance
  • 10th September – Rosh Hashanah
  • 17th September – Yom Kippur
  • 24th September – no class – Erev Rosh Hashanah
  • 1st October – Sukkot and Simchat Torah
  • 8th October – no class – Erev Sukkot
  • 15th October – no class – Erev Simchat Torah
  • 22nd October – The Jewish Home
  • 29th October no class (half term)
  • 5th November – Torah

Study Buddies 2014: Diaspora – travels and adaptations

(Due to the High Holy Days & Festivals, we will not meeting during September or October)

An Autumn term programme to continue our journey through the evolution of Judaism and the history of the Jews:

  • Tuesday 18th November 7:15pm – The Gaonim – who were they? Why do they matter?
  • Tuesday 25th November 7:15pm – Jews in Europe – some history and its implications
  • Tuesday 2nd December 7:15pm – Crusades and their impact
  • Tuesday 9th December 7:15pm – British Jews and their medieval history (1)
  • Tuesday 16th December 7:15pm – British Jews and their medieval history (2)
  • Tuesday 23rd December 7:15pm – Other expulsions, especially from Spain

DON’T FORGET: Knit and Natter details on the calendar, and Bridge Club on Wednesday evenings 7:30 – 10:00pm
