Chag Ha-Shavuot – Saturday 11th June

This Shavuot, Woodford is joining with other progressive communities – Bet Tikvah, New Essex Masorti, Southend Reform and Sukkat Shalom – for an evening celebration, study and (of course) cheesecake. It all takes place on the evening of Saturday 11th June at Sukkat Shalom Synagogue, Hermon Hill, London E11 1UL (within the grounds of the old Wanstead hospital). One of the highlights of the evening will be a talk on The history of Yiddish & the mysterious origin of Ashkenazi Jews by Barry Davis.

The timetable for the evening is as follows:

  • 5:45 pm Children’s festival activities
  • 6:45 pm Chavurah bring and share dairy only supper (drinks provided)
  • 7:45 pm Shavuot evening service
  • 8:15 pm Guest speaker Barry Davis The history of Yiddish & the mysterious origin of Ashkenazi Jews
  • 9:15 pm Havdalah – coffee and cheesecake competition
  • 9:45 pm Study sessions led by Rabbis Larry Becker, Warren Elf, Michael Foulds, David Hulbert & Richard Jacobi

All are welcome so come along for the whole evening, and study as late you like, or just for specific activities. If you are coming for the Chavurah supper, please note it is dairy based bring and share supper. Everyone who is coming is encouraged to bring their entry for the cheesecake competition.
